The world is shrinking more everyday and as we find out more about our past the more connected and closer we become. Our nation is great because of the diversity that makes up the population. For some of us finding each of the branches that led to us is a great pastime and for some a dedication. The following pages are limited to our family but offer some history and links to help others.

Our family tree begins with three surnames and our Native American heritage;

We have heard stories about our native heritage since we were old enough to listen. Our Grandmother told us stories about our Great-Grandmother and Great-Great-Grandmother all of which were born on the reservation in Oklahoma. The history of the first settlers in North America is a sad story but the strength of our peoples still live on in us. All Native Americans hold our culture and history dear and keep it alive in both the telling and today in written volumes. Our family is part of the Cherokee Nation with its capital in Tahlequah, OK.

The most researched line of our family is the Cobbs family. Several of our family have started researching their family and we are beginning to connect with each other to bring the whole story together. The best source for the Cobbs family line going back to the first known Cobb is Mike Cobb's database at Cobb and Cobbs.

Mr. Cobb's site has documented nine separate Cobb/Cobbs family lines in North America and supports a DNA Analysis research project by Robert Stricklin. The COBB DNA PROJECT is now in its fifth year. The only requirement is that the submitter be a biologic male Cobb. The test does not involve any needles. No blood is required. Please go to Cobb and Cobbs or contact Robert Stricklin directly at rstrickl@oregonvos.net.

There are at least two major publications of Stapleton Geneology and history, the best known is Dr. William Columbus Stapleton's Genealogical Research. Most of our family history is found in and around Eastern Kentucky and across the Big Sandy River in Virginia but, since the early 1800's the Stapletons have moved across this nation both north and south.

As you may know, or have guessed, Villasana is a Spanish surname from a village in Northern Spain, Villasana de Mena. We have only just started looking at the history of the Villasana family in North America.
