From SKETCHES OF RABUN COUNTY HISTORY (GA): Rev. John Coffee was the son of Joel and Martha Cobb Coffee. He first married Lavina Carter. His second marriage was to Patsy Singleton. He was best known by having been the pastor of the Stecoa Baptist Church for so many years.This was one of the first two churches established in the county, the one at Dillard having been organized at about the same time. The Stecoa Baptist Church was located at the foot of the hill near the present site of the Laurel Falls Camp. This pioneer preacher served that church for a period of more than 40 years, before and after it was moved to its present site and given the name of the Clayton Baptist Church. He served the Mountain Association as Moderator for 35 years.
