Historical Notes

Elizabeth "Betty" Borders, daughter of John and Catherine (Sellards) Borders and granddaughter of Hezekiah Sellards was born ca 1799, probably on Kimberly Fork of Walkers Creek near Walkers Station located in the present Bland County, Virginia.

Elizabeth married Joseph "Joe" Davis, born ca 1776 in Maryland. Joseph migrated from Virginia about 1810 to settle at what became known as Joe Davis Bend on the Big Sandy River.

No official marriage record for this couple has been found. One of the puzzles is why Elizabeth signed the deed settling her mother's estate in 1833 as Elizabeth Borders.
