Historical Notes

A true American hero. When SPEC4 Lawrence Stapleton's helicopter was shot down by North Vietnamese he was wounded. He went back into the aircraft to pull out the gunner, who was a Father of 5 children. When he went back in, the helicopter exploded, injuring him severely with more than 60% of his body burned. He lived for three weeks and was sent to Brooks Burn center where he succumbed to his burns and the Lord took him home. He was only 20 years old.
