Historical Notes

Robert was one the first employees at the Leach station plant for the Ashland Oil and Refining Company. After retirement he worked his small farm until about 1972 when he became too ill to do so. At first this family lived on a small farm on a rural route just out of Catlettsburg, Kentucky. After a fire devastated their residence, they relocated to a farm on Trace Fork. Virginia, the first child was born in Kenova, West Virginia, the second, Robert Ellis, was born in Catlettsburg. Mrs. Wiley's mother re assumed her maiden name of Lawson while Frances was still in school and rather than continue to explain to people her name was Hensley while her mother's was Lawson, she used the name Fannie Lawson. School records and the marriage license reflects the Fannie Lawson name. She says the dual names have created problems for her.
