Notes

Henry worked in mines with small seams where it was necessary he work on his knees or on his back digging. One day in the mine, he had a strong feeling something was going to happen, so he quit and went home early. The next day when he returned he found the shaft had collapsed. He never again returned to coal mining. Another story he told, is that he would eat black gun powder to make him mean and then he would go out and fight. Black lung
